Today we began our penultimate week of radiation therapy for Jeanie’s breast cancer treatment. And today she had her last full dose of radiation. This is the end of the actual treatment regimen per se and she will now begin what is called the boost stage. The oncologist informed us that at times, cancer cells can lodge in the scar tissue because of the bleeding from that area during the surgery. So they will have boost radiation to attack those cells. From now on she will only have a daily boost dose to the actual scar area. These treatments cover a much smaller area and she will be receiving a smaller dose of radiation.

So she is now beginning to wind down the two month radiation therapy treatment regimen. She has eight such boost treatments remaining. She will finish up next week with that, Lord willing. My lovely lady is tough and determined and she has done very well. She has had only some minor blistering and redness, all within the limits of what is to be expected with this type of radiation therapy. On a couple of occasions she has felt tired and rested for a bit in the afternoon. But as a whole, she has done very well and had no significant side effects from this process.

For the last five months now our time has been taken up largely with these treatments. My wife has been through a lot. I have tried to help her and be here for her in any way that I can. But we have also been buoyed up by your constant prayers, cards, and words of encouragement. To have such a large loving family to support us during this difficult time has made all of the difference in the world. We thank you for your love, your prayers, your words of encouragement, for all of the cards, for simply being there for us when we have so needed you. Thank you and may God richly bless each and every one of your.
